weekending

this weekend, like this week, was low key. quiet and peaceful were on the agenda.
pjs was the wardrobe choice of all. nibbling on festive leftovers was the feast of choice.
errands that had been put off had to be run. at some point we had to get dressed and fill the depleted larder.
much time was spent pondering the upcoming new year. what will my *word* be? my focus?
today we shared a leisurely breakfast.
worked side by side on our outside chores.
this afternoon will bring culling of roosters followed by broth making with a few of said roosters. Cruella will get a haircut. Sawyer will exhaust his rc car batteries over and over.
just the kind of weekend i crave...easy and quiet.

i am joining with the ever fabulous amanda.
share your weekend if you please.

this i know for sure...

*the look in my children's eyes on Christmas morning is the true gift
*being comfortable in your own skin is liberating beyond measure
*its not Christmas without a book or four under the tree
*there is nothing better than a clean sheet calling out for a good list
* bread made by your own hand tastes better than any other
*relationships are complicated, marriage is hard, but rarely is anything of value easy
*giving grace blesses you more than the receiver
*listen more, speak less
*there are few things funnier than Modern Family. i am sorry, that show is hilarious.
*i have missed this space

what do YOU know for sure?

pomp and parade

As John Adams wrote to his beloved Abigail...
I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
The Bonin family will celebrate by watching the John Adams mini series, reading David McCullough, making ice cream & eating watermelon, and loving each other.
Happy Independence Day.

a morning

i went out to do my morning chores and found

i stayed out there and tried to manage damage control and gathered the day's harvest.

realized that i was starving. so i cooked breakfast. scrambled 2 eggs and made an heirloom tomato salad from the basket and a cold glass of raw milk. oh how i love a good glass of milk.

gardening, organic or otherwise, is not for the faint at heart. its a tough business for sure.
