a morning

i went out to do my morning chores and found

i stayed out there and tried to manage damage control and gathered the day's harvest.

realized that i was starving. so i cooked breakfast. scrambled 2 eggs and made an heirloom tomato salad from the basket and a cold glass of raw milk. oh how i love a good glass of milk.

gardening, organic or otherwise, is not for the faint at heart. its a tough business for sure. 

bright and shiny...and 10 right now

what a beautiful bright & shiny day! wednesday is my new favorite day of the week. it is Master Gardener class day. i am in love with the class. we go together like peanut butter & jelly. i have already learned so much after only a few classes...including a BEE CLASS! now all i need is to convince my sweet husband that he wants fresh honey from his very own bees too. that should be a piece of cake, right?
our sunny, easy day is a stark contrast to what is happening just a few hours east of me. my thoughts have been with those in the path hurricane Isaac. my family knows all too well how dangerous and even tragic a hurricane can be.

now my 10 things...

::Master Gardener class...have i mentioned that i am loving it??
::watching the bees dance thru our vegetable garden
::the fact that we are officially a homeschooling family...yay!!
::feed store dates with my mister
::watching my Cameron drive away for his last first day of school...and having Sawyer inside starting his first homeschool day ever.
::baking bread with my own hands reverently for my family...trying a new recipe here
::the breeze making weeding and front porch rocking much more enjoyable
::my mister coming home in the early morning hours, just as the sun is peaking through the trees, whispering his love for me in my ear thinking i am asleep and don't hear him...it gets no better.
::this book...a great read

today's harvest

wow it is hot in Texas! we weren't out in the garden very long and i am dying! so worth it though. growing the food you feed your family is satisfying. to know that is was grown with love and care...completely organic...is a gift i am proud to offer my guys. we did pretty well today....41 banana peppers, 18 ears of corn, 9 japanese eggplants, 8 yellow squash, 8 brandywine tomatoes (love love LOVE my heirloom tomatoes), and handful of yellow pear tomatoes. the girls gave us a 13 eggs today and 2 guinea eggs as well.
not a bad day at the "bonin farm". now i am ready for a tall glass of lemonade!

today was.....

a great day! i love spring break. i love having time to spend with my peeps. i love watching them grow and be curious, to mature and yet remain playful children. i love that their father works shift work is with us many weekdays......such a blessing. i love the everyday rhythm of our life her on the bonin farm. i love our dreaming of one day having a true farm to call our own. mostly today i loved..........

**going to the feed store and stopping to check out the ducks on the way to the vegetable plants....picked up corn, tomatoes, broccoli, strawberries, and japenese eggplants.

**watching jordan & cameron work hard building the foundation for bro. putnam's new deck

**reading my cheese cookbook while my chooks free ranged for a while and visiting with cameron about....well life.

**giggling with kevin while sawyer informed us on many topics.

**smiling while kevin said we are absolutely not getting any ducks all the while knowing deep down he will be the proud owner of at least 2 before monday...silly kevin.

**having a conversation with my dad a couple of days prior to his first 10 k.....the excitement in his voice was contagious.


:::: just have to add a terrific telephone conversation and later a hilarious im chat with sweet sandy mitchell....that woman is certifiable! my face still hurts from laughing!

bring on the butterflies

Kevin and I have been working on this flower bed to attract butterflies. My most favorite part of it is that most everything in the bed has been given to us. The zinnias and marigolds are from our neighbor Ms. Lou. She saved her seed heads from last year and gave us an abundance. The shrimp plant and day lillies are from Kevin sweet grandmother. We filled in with a hibiscus that Kevin started from another of ours and a few things we bought. The only thing left to add is the butterflies!!
